We have based this course on the smallholders beginners day, but focus more detail and time with Kune Kune pigs. Discussion and material is purely aimed at Kune Kune's as pets, we do discuss breed standards and briefly cover breeding, but we do not cover meat production or food chain. Initially we look at the daily routine, the animals themselves and their characteristics, we do health checks and you get hands-on with feeding, injections and other treatments. Our courses are timed to run when we have piglets about so that you can get to know them and their needs. Then we move on to the environment such as housing, bedding, fencing, water and mud! More formal things will be considered, like transport rules, record keeping and Defra regulations, forms and inspections. We will talk about Society membership and registrations, animal marking and tagging. If you're about to live with Kune Kune's this is the course for you. You'll probably want to take one away with you, but you need to get your order in quick for that! |
