We have based the Angoras course on the smallholders beginners day, but focus more detail and time with our Angora goats. We take you through breed standards looking at conformation and fleece and cover breeding and rearing kids. Initially we look at the daily routine, the animals themselves and their characteristics, we do health checks and you get hands-on with feeding, injections and other treatments, foot trimming, and also look and feel of the styles and characters of different fleeces. Then we move on to the environment such as housing, bedding, fencing, and what they can and shouldn't eat! Our Spring time courses are timed to run when we have kids about so that you can get to know them and their needs, whereas the summer ones usually will cover sheering. More formal things will be considered, like transport, record keeping and Defra regulations, forms and inspections. We will also talk about the Angora Goat Society and membership, registrations and ear tagging. Angoras are adorable, but you need to know what you're getting yourself into. So, if you're about to take-on Angora goats this is the course for you. |
